about

This is a blog created by Professor Jeff Allred for ENGL 784 at Hunter College, most recently taught in Spring 2023.  Course members will post reflections on a wide range of course materials, from Faulkner’s fiction itself to the critical and historical supplementary readings in the syllabus. Site content includes content from previous runs of the course by permission of its respective authors. The header image features the USPS stamp commemorating Faulkner. It was an ironic gesture, since Faulkner was briefly the postmaster in Oxford, MS, ending his brief, unhappy tenure with the quip that he’d never again work for “any son-of-a-bitch with two cents for a postage stamp.” For more on the 1987 release of the stamp, see this piece from the Times.
